Mission Statement: The mission of the Saguache County Department of Social Services is to strengthen and preserve families by providing financial assistance and services to residents of Saguache County in accordance with state and federal regulations and laws. Saguache County Department of Social Services is dedicated to providing quality service and maintaining the dignity and respect of those we serve.

If you or someone you know has a concern regarding the safety or protection of a child please call (719) 655-2537 during normal business hours.
If it is an emergency outside of these hours please call law enforcement or the Colorado Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-844-CO-4-KIDS (1-844-264-5437). Law enforcement will in turn contact our after hours worker.

Attention households who receive SNAP/Food Assistance

Due to recent Congressional action, Colorado SNAP/Food Assistance households will no longer receive the additional Emergency Allotment starting March 1, 2023.

February 2023 will be the last month that the emergency allotment will be paid.

This is a change enacted by Congress and is not appealable.

Processing Timeline

From the date the agency receives your completed application, we must act within:

  • 7-days for Expedited Food Assistance;
  • 30-days for Food Assistance;
  • 45-days for Colorado Works/TANF, Colorado Supplement, Old Age Pension (OAP)
  • 60-days for State Aid to the Needy Disabled (AND) and Aid to the Blind (AB)
  • 90-days for Medicaid applications based on disability for Long Term Care.

All child abuse and neglect concerns should be reported to the Colorado Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline 1-844-CO4-KIDS.
